Laser treatment of caries
In non-contact preparation laser radiation removes areas of teeth affected by caries without touching the tooth surface with the instrument. Only erbium laser can be used for this manipulation. The thermal effect of laser radiation is leveled by supplying water and air to the preparation area. This technique has a number of advantages in comparison with traditional preparation and it makes this manipulation more comfortable.
When performing general restoration procedures, an erbium laser can often replace traditional instruments for a dentist, providing comparable or better results. For a patient, the use of a laser in dentistry is also preferable: a patient can get a less intense and painful restoration therapy with less destructive postoperative effects.
Advantages of contactless preparation in comparison with a traditional one:
- no contact;
- no vibration;
- possibility of preparation without anesthesia.
